Haiti student returns to Oak Grove High School
Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) – As those North Dakota soldiers returned from Afghanistan to Hector International last night, one passenger on that flight, walked right along with them.
A boy from Haiti, on his way to Oak Grove High School, flying here, with the shirt on his back.
Today, after a short night’s sleep, he went to school.
After a missed connection, Ronald arrived in Fargo, weary but thankful that after five years of red tape, he finally got a visa to come to Fargo.
They are here.
But the Lance Bergstrom family, that is hosting Ronald, didn’t have to wait for luggage.
Ruth Bergstrom, Hosting Ronald: „When he came, he came with nothing. When he came last time, he had nothing. He came with everything he had and that was, what he was wearing.”
Today, Oak Grove welcomed Ronald. His dream of coming to America to school, just beginning. The only family income, selling kindling in the town market.
Mike Slette, Oak Grove Pres. „We can give an opportunity to a student that certainly would not have had it otherwise.”
Ronald Andre: „I am happy, very happy to be here, yes.”
He met the classmates who will now embrace the boy who seven years ago came to Fargo on a medical emergency, after a missionary in Haiti was able to bring him to Lance Bergstrom for surgery to repair his infected cross eye.
Today, a new life. Times in Haiti are tough. Education, spotty. Possibilities, few. And so Ronald’s plan is to get an education here, and then return to his village to help those he grew up with.
And Ronald joins 17 international students this year at Oak Grove.
